For this project, our client wanted to transform her small front yard into a low-maintenance garden that would bring vibrant color and charm without the upkeep of traditional grass. We carefully selected a variety of colorful plants that would provide beauty throughout the seasons while minimizing the need for constant care.
Against the back brick wall, were Panicle Hydrangeas. These plants not only provide stunning blooms in a range of colors but also add height and structure to the garden. In front of them, we added Miss Ruby Butterfly Bush and Golden Lights Azalea followed by Pow Wow Echinacea, which offers cheerful, pink flowers to brighten the space.
To provide a functional seating area, we Intentionally picked a boulder that is perfect for sitting and chatting with neighbors. To enhance the sense of peace and shade, we added a Weeping Norwegian Pine behind the boulder. This tree adds vertical interest and provides a touch of greenery and shade in a small space.
We also bordered the property with Leafy Buckthorns, which help define the yard and provide a natural barrier. Behind the hydrangeas, we planted a pollinator-friendly garden in a small area beneath her front windows, featuring Rudbeckia Goldsturm, Artemisia, and Salvia to support local pollinators and add even more seasonal color.
In addition to the plantings, we selected a gravel that met the requirements of the client’s HOA, ensuring that the materials used were both functional and compliant with neighborhood guidelines. Lastly, we addressed the irrigation system, which was not functioning correctly, ensuring that the plants would receive the proper water they need to thrive.
The result is a colorful, low-maintenance front yard that creates an inviting atmosphere, supports local wildlife, and provides a peaceful spot for socializing with neighbors.
